Experiment Name: consumption of shell fabric of polo shirt
Cell- 01738676060
Department of Textile Engineering
World University of Bangladesh
To determine
the shell fabric of the polo shirt we have to exclude only collar part &
cuff hem part. After getting all the measurements if we apply them into the
following equation we will get fabric consumption of that particular part per
dozen.
The equation
is CPD= (L*W*GSM*12)/107
Where, L= Length of the part,
W= Width of
the part ,GSM= 220
Objective:
To know the
procedure to calculate the consumption of shell fabric of a polo shirt.
To find out
the consumption of fabric used in a polo shirt practically in lab.
Fabric Consumption for different parts:
- Fabric consumption for body part.
- Fabric consumption for Sleeves.
- Fabric consumption for pocket.
- Fabric consumption for half-moon
Fabric consumption for body part:
The length
of the body part should be measure from the backside along the HPSL to body
hem.
The width
should be measure at the chest where it more wide than the other area.
The seam
allowance & sewing allowance should be added to the main measurement as per
types of seam & types of stitch.
Measurement obtained along body part:
Length=
(75+2+1+2) cm
= 80 cm
Here, Bottom
hem sewing allowance= 2 cm;
Neck sewing allowance= 2 cm;
sewing allowance= 1 cm
Width= {55+
(1.5+1.5)2+5} cm
= 66 cm;
where both side seam allowance for two part 6; seam for placket in lower part =
5 cm
Consumption/
dozen = (L*W*GSM*12)/107
=
(80*66*220*12)/107
= 1.39392
kg/dozen
Fabric consumption for sleeves:
Sleeve
length should be measure excluding sleeve hem
Sleeve width
should be measure at armhole attaching area.
Measurement obtained in sleeve:
Length, L=
(23 + 2+ 1+ 2) cm
= 28
cm; where seam allowance = 4 cm &
sewing allowance = 1 cm.
Width, W= =
(28*2 + 3) cm
= 59 cm.
Where seam allowance 2 cm & sewing allowance 1 cm.
Consumption/
dozen = (L*W*GSM*12)/107
=
(28*59*220*12)/107
= 0.8722 kg/
dozen
Fabric consumption for pocket:
The length
of pocket should measure at highest length of pocket.
The width of
pocket should measure at wider part of the pocket.
Measurement
obtained at pocket:
Length L =
11.5+ 3; where upper hem folded seam allowance= 2 cm & both end sewing
allowance =1 cm.
= 14.5 cm
Width W=
11.5+ 1; where sewing allowance = 1cm.
= 12.5 cm.
Consumption/dozen
= (L*W*GSM*12)/107
CPD =
(14.5*12.5*220*12)/107
= 0.04785
kg/dozen
Fabric consumption for half-moon:
The length
of half-moon should measure at highest length.
The width of
half-moon should measure at most wider point.
Measurement obtained at half-moon:
Length L=
17+ 1 = 18 cm; where sewing allowance = 1 cm
Width W= 8.5
+ 1.5 = 10 cm; where 0.5 cm seam allowance & 1 cm sewing allowance.
Consumption/dozen
= (L*W*GSM*12)/107
CPD =
(18*10*220*12)/107
= 0.04752
kg/ dozen
Fabric consumption:
0.04752 kg/
dozen (half-moon) + 0.8722 kg/ dozen (sleeve) + 0.04785 kg/dozen (pocket) +
1.39392 kg/dozen (body part) = 2.36149 kg/dozen
Total fabric consumption:
Total fabric
+ 7% wastage
= 2.5267943
kg/dozen.
Comments:
Fabric
consumption is very essential to find out the quantity of fabrics required to
produce a garments. The main reason of this consumption is to bring an
assumption over costing of the garments. When a merchandiser asked to offer
cost/ price for a new style of garments then he has to calculate the fabric
quantity. So it is very important to know the process & procedure about
fabric consumption therefore this experiment was very enjoyable to me.
Which part of polo-shirt Is called half-moon?
ReplyDeleteHalf moon is placed at back panel inner side near below to collar and top center of back panel
DeleteClear cut and short formulas for fabric consumption. But the word 'half moon' is new to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Also know about Fabric Consumption per dozen of a Shirt
